Estes casacos apareceram nos anos 40 do século XX e, tal como outros casacos masculinos, têm inspiração militar. Os bomber jackets são inspirados nos casacos criados para pilotos militares usarem, tendo sido mais tarde absorvidos e popularizados pela cultura popular.
